At Last, Cher’s Clueless Closet Is Finally A Reality
If you were born before 2010, I think it’s safe to assume you’ve seen the film Clueless starring Alicia Silverstein as Cher, the spoiled 16-year-old daughter of a wealthy Los Angeles lawyer who not only negotiates her grades with teachers but plays matchmaker with them, too.
“Isn’t my house classic? The columns date all the way back to 1972”
— Cher Horowitz —
Cher’s glamorous laid-back California lifestyle—equipped with a sporty white Jeep and a plush suite in her father’s mansion to boot—is perhaps made most memorable by her digital wardrobe software that displays itself on a dinosaur of a dial-up desktop computer (ohhh, remember the ‘90s?) at the beginning of the film. The opening scene shows Cher grinning ear-to-ear as she clicks through her various tops, bottoms, and shoes until she finally finds a combination that works for her—a black and yellow MacLeod-ish tartan skirt-suit number that certainly is as bold as her personality.
Whether you first watched the iconic film when you were 5, 15, or 25, you’ve likely fantasized about having something so luxurious as a digital wardrobe that could effortlessly find you a new and exciting outfit every morning.
Introducing: Indyx
The “Not-So-Clueless”, Clueless Closet App
Well, lucky for you—it’s finally here. Seriously. It’s called Indyx (oh hey, that’s us!). We’re a one-stop shop designed to help you unlock the potential of what you *already* own. And yes, it even resembles the interface of Cher’s Clueless closet—but we also offer so much more. We like to think of ourselves as the “not-so-clueless” wardrobe app.
Indyx is revolutionizing how you get dressed by creating a holistic wardrobe ecosystem designed to help you maximize the pieces you already own through bespoke personal styling services combined with a built-in digital resale platform.
It starts by first creating an “index” of everything in your existing wardrobe. Our proprietary app allows you to photograph your items and give them a clean, white background—just like the interface Cher was so lucky to work with.
By cataloging your closet with our digital wardrobe app, you are then able to use various features in the app that help you find new ways to wear and style the things you already own—such as planning your outfits for the week, creating a packing list for your next trip, or even determining the cost-per-wear of your items.
You might be thinking, “How will I ever find the time to photograph every piece of clothing I own?”. Besides, we can’t imagine that Cher herself ever had the time in her glamorous life for such a task. Rest assured, we hear you—and that’s why we offer our white glove service (The Catalog) with one of our expert Archivists that will do all the hard work for you.
One of our dedicated team members will visit your home to build out your full virtual wardrobe in just a few hours that you can in turn use right away to style your existing clothing in new ways—all from the convenience of your phone.
Okay, But Why Are You “Not So Clueless”?
We know that there are other wardrobe apps out there competing for the same title as THE Clueless closet app. How are we any different?
Well, first is that we are founded by two fashion industry veterans. We understand the unique dynamics of the industry, and especially how a Clueless closet app could not only make getting dressed easier in the morning, but completely re-wire the industry towards less waste.
Second is that we have built in functionality that allows you do *so* much more than Cher ever dreamed of on her Windows 95 desktop computer.
We offer in-app personal styling services
We believe extending the lifespan of our clothing is one of the best things you can do to help mitigate overconsumption in the fashion industry. We also know that most women already have great pieces sitting in their closet, but we were just never taught how to truly style ourselves! This is exactly why Indyx also offers personal styling services.
“Do you prefer fashion victim or ensembly challenged?”
— Cher Horowitz —
After you catalog at least 25 items in your digital wardrobe, Indyx’s personal styling team can start providing weekly outfit recommendations for just $25 a month.
If you’re more interested in a one-off refresh, The Lookbook starts at about $100 and gets you 10 new outfits professionally styled entirely from your own closet or with a few suggestions of what to add to your wardrobe mixed in.
As of this article being published, Indyx is the only wardrobe app offering professional personal styling services to its users. Why is this better than AI-styling? Simply: the tech just isn’t there yet. If you’ve ever spoken to an Alexa or Google Home, you probably already have an idea about how “intelligent” AI still isn’t. When AI today struggles to understand explicit instructions, how can we expect it to master something as subjective as personal style? At this point, humans are simply *much* better at the art of styling - and, who really wants to take style advice from a robot, anyways?
Fully Integrated Resale Platform
Think that’s all Indyx can do? As if! Indyx is also a resale platform you can use to list individual items for sale when you’re ready to move on. And that’s something Cher’s Clueless closet *couldn’t* do.
“Dude, what’s wrong? You suffering from buyer’s remorse or something?”
— Dionne Davenport —
Whether you bought something on a whim that you’re now majorly regretting, or just have a closet full of clothing you never wear, Indyx is the best clothing resale platform out there for a number of reasons.
Unlike competitors, Indyx charges zero commission fees—which in turn puts more money in your pocket to buy more secondhand clothing (and help mitigate the environmental impacts of overconsumption!).
The most annoying part of listing items for sale on other platforms like Depop or Poshmark is finding the time and energy to take photos and create the listings. Who doesn’t have a pile of “to sell” clothes sitting in the back of their closet, just waiting to be listed? With your wardrobe already cataloged with photos and item details on Indyx, creating those listings is a total breeze. You can decide to sell something while sitting on the subway, and finish listing it within 30 seconds!
In addition to listing single items from your wardrobe for sale, you can also open up your entire closet for offers from other members at any time—which is particularly useful for those spring cleaning and decluttering eras of your life.
Whether you need help re-styling an item that you’ve never quite figured out how to wear or are ready to resell it, Indyx is the all-in-one platform for managing your digital wardrobe most effectively. Our services remain useful even as your style evolves and wardrobe needs change, and help you facilitate those shifts while being mindful of the planet and helping to prevent unnecessary consumption.
So, what do you say—is Indyx doing Cher’s Clueless closet justice? We obviously think so.

The Clueless Closet of your dreams is finally here: It’s called Indyx, a fully integrated personal styling and resale app on a mission to help you maximize what you *already* own.
Not only does the app allow you to digitally organize your closet and style outfits with your clothing in the same way Cher did, it also lets you sell them easily to other Indyx members—which ultimately helps extend the lifespan of the garment and keep it out of landfill.
-
While the Clueless closet Cher uses in the film is completely fictional, there’s a modern-day version on the market called Indyx—an app you can use to catalog the items in your digital wardrobe and then plan your outfits for the week, create packing lists for trips, and even calculate the cost-per-wear of individual pieces. It also includes an integrated peer-to-peer resale platform so you can easily resell your items to others in the Indyx community—and help keep them out of landfills.
-
We’ve all been envious of Cher’s Clueless closet since the ‘90s, and now, the technology is finally here. Meet Indyx—the all-in-one personal styling and resale platform on a mission to help individuals unlock the potential of what they already own. And, yes, it even features a digital interface similar to the one used by Alicia Silverstein in the film.
The Clueless closet of your dreams is here—and it’s driven by a sustainable mission of reducing clothing overconsumption and extending the lifespan of items already in closets. That’s why Indyx has created an end-to-end fashion ecosystem that allows you to take full control of your closet (and your personal style!) and put it to use in a way that works harder for you and the planet.

If you’re looking for an app that styles outfits for you based on your current wardrobe, look no further than Indyx—a one-stop platform for all of your personal styling and resale needs.
Indyx is hands down the modern-day version of the Clueless closet used by the film’s main character, Cher (Alicia Silverstone). The app allows you to catalog the items in your wardrobe, which you can then use the images to create outfits, pack for trips, and decide what to resell on the fully integrated resale marketplace. You can also work directly with a personal stylist who can help style brand new outfits for you.
